Closed on Jan. 1, 2007

Wow!!! we will be closed this day. I know to the government workers (do they really work, lol, don't take it personal!) but us non-government people do usually have to work on these days. So that makes for a 3 day weekend, can't complain about that.
But unlike the government, on Jan. 2, 2006 we will be up and running preparing for Fenty and T.D. Jakes.
For those that don't know Jan. 2, 2006 has been declared a day of morning for the death of President Ford. It will be hard to get in and out of DC this day.
On a heads up were going to have the car show coming... I'll post more on that later. We still have a few events to get through before this takes place (Like the motorcycle show).

Finally Up

finally got the blog space done (or have I?)! There are some other things that I want to add to it but for now I think I have the basic layout finished. There are some pictures that I want to post and I want to link my on line photo basket to this site.

I'm open to ideas to make the web page better so what every input you all give I'll check it out.

Dealing with personal issues in an mmo

One thing I have learned is that never let your personal issues get involved with gaming, especially in an mmorpg. Sure you can make great friends, sure you build relationships, sure you find a great guild with a great guild leader, but always remember it's a game. I have found that most people use gaming as an escape form the day to day grind to get away from what every it is they need to get away from and some people play for the fun of it and don't care who is on the other end. let's face it, if your in a guild (or not in one) you can be who ever you want to be and no one will know the difference (Unless there the FBI and can track you down, lol)... does this really matter? In all actuality no it does not as long as you maintain a consistent play/character style then no one will question you, but if your actions as a character reflect your actually life and you are having problems in your real life then everyone will take notice and start to ask questions, It's your decision if you wish, or not wish, to answer those questions. All I can say is be careful on how you answer those questions, it all depends on how much you want to put yourself out there to be scrutinized by others that you may know in game but truly you do not know. Trust me, I have been there and it sure can destroy some good friendships. You don't see them on a daily basis so you don't know what they are going through and they don't know what your going through. And by all means DO NOT put your business out there unless you are prepared to be scrutinized, questioned, poked and prodded. Everyone needs someone to talk too... so talk to your spouse, friend, pastor, councilor or loved one, make sure that person is tangible and willing to listen, do not dump your problems on someone you met on line in an mmorpg. Keep gaming to gaming and personal life to the real world.

Guilds can be fun,now the key word here is fun... don't destroy the fun and friendship of guild mates by including them in your business, If they notice something is wrong and they question you then it's up to you on how you want to answer, Just be careful and ask some simple questions to yourself. Can you really entrust your life's details with someone you met in a game? I'm sure you can but to what extent? Can that person truly understand what your going through? We all have different ways in dealing with problems/issues and what may apply to you may not apply to someone else. The people that play an mmorpg come from many different races, religions and backgrounds and everyone has there own baggage and deal with things differently. If you choose to give advice then be conscious of who you are talking with, ask yourself... how well do you know this person? How will I effect this persons life by giving that individual advice? Is it really worth my time to give advice? It's all up to you, so you make the call, just remember there is a human being on the other end of the keyboard reading every stroke of the keyboard you send. If you choose to enter that persons life on a personal level, just remember once actions are set in motion there's no turning back, what's done is done for better or for worse (Hopefully for the better). Also Never Ever pass judgment on someone, especially if you do not know them and there circumstances/background. Everyone lives separate lives, everyone makes choices, everyone deals with things differently, everyone has different backgrounds. What my apply to you may not apply to that person, what advice you give may not fit that person or may not be feasible for that person to accomplish...

THINK before speaking...

Remember people pay to play games and have fun, you dumping your personal life on individuals or a guild will make things worse for you and place other gamers in an uncomfortable position. The basic rule of thumb is keep the details to yourself.

There are some exceptions to this but overall I fell what I have written should apply.

MOST OF ALL... IT'S AN MMORPG YOU PAY TO HAVE FUN SO HAVE FUN!!! If you want to pay for advice then go elsware! Believe me an mmorpg is not the place to get personal/individual advice!

T.D. Jakes

For those that don't know who T.D. Jakes is, he's a Minister with his Church in Texas. Hes coming to the WCC on Jan 3-5, 2007, this is being sponsored by First Bapt. Church of Glenarden and Greater Mt. Calvery Holy Church to Celebrate 2007 New Years Revival. This event set up has been pretty quiet, I think the early move in date helped. They will be taking up 2 halls (D and E)the performers at this event will be Wed. = Martha Munizza, Thurs. = Tye Tribbett & GA, Fri. = Hezekiah Walker & the Love Fellowship Choir.

I most likely will be working late these nights (O, fun, fun, fun)but this is to be determined. They open the doors at 5:30 p.m. and it goes till 11 p.m. I look forward to seeing Tye Tribbett, I think I'll bring the family up here to see him preform, the kids would like that! It's expected to be packed that night, allot of kids like Tye Tribbett.

Fenty Inaugural Event Meeting

Well it looks like Mayor Elect Fenty's event will take place on Wed. Jan. 3, 2007 and the ball will take place on Jan. 6 2007. At least we got that straight. The Promotional Video with the Mayor for the WCC will be pushed back to 1:30 p.m. with a photo shoot following. It should be interesting.

Changes on the Fenty Inaugural

GAHHHHHH!!!!!

Everything is up in the air, I hope this is not the tell, tell signs on how he will run the city. Ok, after the meeting they have a plan A and a plan B either way it's going to happen. Plan A is everything is a go as planed, but I feel this will not happen, it would be in his best interest to attend the Funeral of President Ford then have his swearing in ceremony. So that brings us to plan B... have the Inaugural at 12:00 - 4:00 pm and push back the Ball to Saturday the 6th. So it looks like a late night for me on the 6th... O happy day!

I'll find out more at the meeting scheduled at 10-12 tomorrow, I hope by then they make a decission.

On to the next subject... I just got this memo...

Mayor-Elect Fenty will be here on property tomorrow at 12:30pm for a very important convention center video shoot. We are reaching out to as many employees and service contractors as possible to help us out as "convention patrons" and be in the lobby at 12:30pm. This is your chance to be a star!

For the video shoot, we need the lobby to look busy so we will have you walking around, coming in and out of the doorways, etc. The entire shoot should take no longer than about an hour, but what ever time you can spare to be a convention patron would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help in making this very important WCCA video a success!

We all know what this means... make sure the grand lobby looks excellent and be part of the background. Watch the news you may see me (That's if you know what I look like!)

A Family Guild

I'm really into MMORPG's, I'm not as bad as I use to be but over the years I have made some very close friends, the strange thing is we have never actually met one another, but we have become friends. It all started when I bought my fist copy of EQ1, from there I was hooked, there was no going back. In that game I played a half-elf warrior called Wartonis, that was my main and I loved it! I joined a guild called Transcendent Order, about 1 year into playing we decided to create a guild called Order of Thought, it took a vote of around 10 people to sign the charter and get the guild going, I was one of the people that helped pull it all together. I was quick to get involved in seeing this guild succeed... to make a long story short EQ died with the fan base moving on to other games and OoT stagnated... then came WoW (World of Warcraft). I made quite afew friends on WoW and wanted to see the glory days of OoT come back to life so I formed OoT on Malfurion, it was a change from the PvP we were use to but all in all it worked out for the better, were back together and I have made many many new friends and when I say friends I mean real friends that have helped me along the way in my personal journey. Our guild is going strong with around 155 active accounts and over 200 members, were not the largest guild but I would not be exaggerating if I were to say we are one of the better guilds.

if you are playing WoW and decide to come over to Malfurion look us up... you won't regret it!

Fenty's Inaugural

For those that don't know, I am currently the Assistant General Manager of Housekeeping at the Washington DC Convention Center, a 2.3 million sq. ft. bldg. (ooooo exciting! lol, but really it is interesting). DC is a very political town so, of course, the WCC (Washington Convention Center) caters to the politics of the city. Fenty is the next mayor coming in and we are hosting his Inaugural and Ball. Allot of top people should be there... now here is the kicker... like any city there is change... As we all know President Ford has passed away and they are laying him to rest on January 2, 2007, this is the same day Mayor Fenty will be sworn in to office... they have changed the time form 7 a.m. to (I believe) 2 p.m. and the ball that was to take place in the evening will be moved (I believe) to Jan. 5, 2007. (Yaaaa! I dodged the bullet on that meeting and did not have to attend!) I will have more information this afternoon. All this may work out good for him because allot of people that attend President Fords Funeral may attend Fenty's swearing in Ceremony. This works out bad for us because the schedule is all ready set and now we have to shuffle around at the last min. to accommodate for the ever changing future events... such is life, such goes the industry. Either way, I look forward to taking some pictures of the event and I will post them here.
